Prisoners of War - Page One

King's Own Prisoners of War from a postcard sent home by Number 5906 Private Nicholas Goulding of the 1st Battalion King's Own who was taken prisoner in August 1914, only a few days after he arrived in France on 23rd August.  The sign reads: "Campaigners, 65 South Africa Medals, Total Service 676 Years, Total Age 1354 Years, Friedrichsfeld, June 1916."

King's Own Prisoner of War with left to right, Number 6228 Lance Corporal Joseph Brown, Number 8503 Sergeant John Bamford and Number 10225 Lance Corporal William Charles Bloxham, and seated Number 10815  Corporal Jabez Pendlebury of the 1st Battalion King's Own.  All arrived in France on 23rd August 1914 and were taken prisoner shortly afterwards.

Group of 2nd Battalion men interned in Switzerland, photographed in 1917.  The officer is Lieutenant F H Ellis who was reported missing in May 1915 with the 2nd Battalion.  He was repatriated on 13th September 1917.  The postcard was sent to Lieutenant Colonel Bois of the 2nd Battalion who was by then serving in Macedonia.

An unidentified group of prisoners of war in Germany, including a King's Own man who sent the postcard to a relative who lived at Wigan.
