1st/4th (TF) Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment - 1914

Group of officers and sergeants of the 1st/4th Battalion, including Colour Sergeant John T Preston, from Dalton in Furness.  The postmark is dated 28th September, 1914 and posted from Twyford, Berkshire.  Colour Sergeant Preston enlisted in the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment in around 1897.

Group of the 1st/4th Battalion at Sevenoaks in Kent, towards the end of 1914.  Second left is Colour Sergeant John Preston.  The Company Sergeant Major is seated and the others are sergeants.

"...our butcher, cutting up the meat....it is nearly Xmas and we are so far from home, never mind we must put up with it...." wrote Colour Sergeant John Preston of the 1st/4th Battalion, King's Own at Sevenoaks, December 1914.
