1st/5th Bn, King's Own in 1919

Sergeant Holt, pictured extreme left, queues up outside 'Mobile Canteen Number 2'.  The 55th West Lancashire Division badge can be seen on the sign.  The location was probably in Belgium in 1919.

Watched by the Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor William Briggs OBE, and the Corporation, the Cadre and Colours of the 1st/5th Battalion parade in front of the Town Hall on their return from Germany via Ireland on 19th October 1919.  The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel W G Hoare, DSO, stands to the left of the two mascots, Johnny, a white pony given by the 2nd Battalion, and Joey, an Indian mule found at Ypres in 1915.
