The regiment was at that time known by the name of the Colonel - in the 1730's and 1740's this was Colonel William Barrell. The 'Blue' relates to the blue facings worn by the regiment on their uniform as they were an Royal regiment. Blue and orange have traditionally been the colours of the regiment. The blue signifying the Royal regiment and the orange from the fact that the King's Own was one of the first to support William of Orange when he landed at Torbay in 1688.
